`Peyo` I certainly hope animation hasn't been doing the site any harm!
2022-10-25 04:24:18
`Peyo` Utterly relatable and I am glad it is on your radar as a feature! I have no idea if this info would be helpful at all but when handling animation stacks, I would always number in increments of five (for example, frame one would be frame 0005, frame two would be frame 0010, frame three would be frame 0015 and so on) so that there would be room between them for the insertion of other frames or in-betweens. Using a method such as that might be helpful, but it might be more practical and easy to keep track of merely making every frame a multiple of 10, so for example frame 0010, frame 0020, frame 0030 and so on.
Great work on everything and thank you for the great site!

XP Yeeeessss we're seeing the same animation gyehehe x3 As long as keep animating we'll keep improving! And you are welcome! `Timebroken`

`Timebroken` OH actually I think it's great, you can definitely animate!!! Thank you! Basically this looks really good and has a good sense of movement and weight and volume so all I can say is, keep up the animatin'!

`Peyo` This one would be truly helpful and a boost for any animators! If it was possible to actually insert blank frames into the "frame stack" during a project. I could see how it would be difficult to do in real time, but would it be possible to add the feature even if it involved a page reload? The animation tools right now are great and I did a fun animation of a plane to test them out, but the wish for the ability to insert frames loomed large! Other things such as being able to re-order frames would be great, too. Essentially anything that allows the re-organizing of frames.

`battery` Hiiiii! X3 THANKS! I just started out testing the animation feature in its current state and got carried away, it was so fun!

`Peyo` Hey there! Of course I don't consider anything like this urgent or necessary, but I wanted to get the concept out there, and I am glad you had similar thoughts. On a couple points you brought up...
At its base it's really just an easier way to give a group unfettered access to a strip. (I gave actual case examples, but they're all just built off that simple idea.) For example, right now you can do all the same things using friends only games or secret games, just with the added issue of dealing with passing and timers, or having someone have the strip passed to them at an inconvenient time, or having difficulty coordinating the project. Or, for example, if the owner of a secret strip stops using the site for whatever reason, leaving the strip forever locked away and out of reach. A circle of people with access means the project it applies to would always be in reach for that circle to finish as people get inspired. So more than anything it's just a convenience and refinement. It does have application on higher levels, but what I would imagine it being most used for is 1 user making a Project Circle with another user's name in it and just using that to make strips they can work on together without any risk of "losing" the strip to others if a timer expires. Unless the site underwent a growth surge I don't think it would ever go much beyond that.
As for letting people join or kicking them out, since it's really just a list of usernames maintained by the person who owns the strip, all that would be up to them privately to manage as strip owner. My write-up made this sound a lot more grand than it is, as it's really just something that lets you create a smaller "friends list" for a targeted friends only game.
Thanks for reading it over, in any case!

Additional Good Things:
Allow easy copying of an existing Project Circle to your own Project Circle list so you can make use of it to create projects as well.
When a strip is using a Project Circle, have the users in the circle displayed visibly at the top of the screen so people can see what they're getting into and with whom.
Politely asking someone if they will grant you admission to a Project Circle is less tense than asking for inclusion on their friends list, especially if the art topic is the main bonding force.

Real World Cases for Use:
Someone wants to do an Undertale fan comic, but of course hating on Undertale is a meme, so any attempt to have a sincere Undertale comic would simply lead to it being vandalized or ridiculed. The Undertale fan can create the Undertale Fan Comic Project Circle and add only people they know are sincere fans of Undertale to the project circle. They can remain friends with people who might ridicule their interests due to not having given those friends enough rope to hang themselves.
Someone is a fan of drawing vehicles and knows of 3 other users who likewise also love to draw vehicles. They can create the Vehicle Enthusiast Project Circle and add those 3 other users, and use that circle to create vehicle-centric strips! As opposed to struggling to incorporate panels from users who say "I have never actually drawn a vehicle before in my life but thought I'd give it a try right at the climax of your big chase sequence" they can rest assured the chrome will remain quite shiny until the finish line!
Someone could create a Nude Figure Drawing Project Circle without necessarily living under a cloud of impending doom and looking at the screen through barely-parted fingers every time they log in to check the progress of the project. This is only in theory, and this may well be impossible under any circumstances.

Why this is useful:
1. You can include others in your projects without having to add them to your friends list and without them having to add you to theirs! Unlike a friends list which really has no practical meaning for art projects (most artists will tell you art is no place for friendship!) Project Circles would allow you to choose only specific participants who fit a project. Likewise if someone acts up or "trolls" a project, kicking them off the Project Circle that gave them access isn't likely to cause the sort of meltdown and drama de-friending would cause.
2. Being included in a Project Circle acts as a direct invitation to participate. Being on someone's friends list doesn't really give any indication of whether or not they'd like you to take part in a specific strip, but being included on a Project Circle for that strip certainly is a direct invitation and gives encouragement to take part!
3. If you are working on a project with a friend, making a project circle containing the two of you is a more convenient method than trying to pass strips! When one person completes a panel they can just leave the project there and see if the other person wants to contribute, or jump back in themselves at any time. No timers to worry about!

Project Circles Suggestion
Suggestion for a quality of life improvement: Project Circles. What are project circles? They are named lists that users can create and then add other users to. Then when a project is made (be it a strip, a flipbook, an animation, or anything that surfaces in future) one or more of these lists can be assigned to it, dictating who can participate. If a project has a project circle list assigned to it, everyone on that list can participate in the project!
How it would work: A user clicks on a link allowing them to create a new Project Circle. They are asked to give the Project Circle a name. Once it is named, it is added to their Project Circles list and may be edited. Editing consists of entering the user names or user numbers of other users. If valid, the users will be added to the circle in question. Of course users may also be removed.
How is it used: When a new project is created the option exists to designate it a Project Circle project, just as things can be designated Friends Only or Public. This gives access to a dropdown where the creator can choose one or more of their Project Circles to add to the project. This should be dynamic so the nature of the project can be changed at any time. For example a Project Circle project should be able to be converted to Public or Friends Only at any time, or projects of other sorts converted to Project Circle.

`Peyo` I'm not sure what your relationship with coding is but the way I would have handled this back when I used to code was by doing a search for the exact string first (I don't imagine that would be much of a problem on here since the user base is pretty small) and then failing that have it start seeking a partial match, but also a more hardcore (but less error prone) approach would just be having anything but an exact match fail, since we can edit comments after the fact anyway.
However, speaking of user numbers, that actually would have always been my approach would be to first reduce a string to a number/database reference and use that for the process.

It would be great if every one of those ooz words atted nooz!
2022-10-23 20:32:07
`Peyo` I was trying to @ nooz in a strip that completed and when I did it kept changing it to aim the mention at noozz. When I went to edit I'd see the mentioned name in single quotes. No idea what was going on there but I thought I'd mention it, and if you want to check the mention it was in the comments of this strip:
https://pchutney.com/strip/1252
The weirdest thing is I never typed it any way except for nooz

`Timebroken` It is definitely a team effort, also I looked and saw your purple doggy girl comic that one was really good too! I think as many as you make they will be a great success.
2022-10-21 18:50:29
`Timebroken` Yeah it's all good I just got confused because I didn't even know about the feature! I actually really like the idea of a status line at the top of a strip that tells the state of any possible variables, or at least if certain variables are in effect.
2022-10-21 16:58:43
`Peyo` Oh thanks! And here I thought I'd caught a bug! Thanks for the change that definitely is informative!
2022-10-21 04:59:12
`Peyo` I'm not sure if I am just not seeing it, but it seems like starring a panel in a completed secret strip doesn't allow it to show up in the stars feed. Favoriting/liking the strip seems to make it show up in the likes feed, however.
2022-10-19 00:19:45
I've enjoyed watching your strip progress! Peyo has given us an almost unheard of level of control over the strips which is REALLY nice, I love it! It means we can start with one idea and switch it to another. It's good to see you drawing again Dusk!

`Peyo` I kept wondering why new features called EGG kept showing up!
2022-10-17 17:52:55
`Peyo` Wow wow wow! Thanks!!! I hope you feel better soon and I hope the sickness is nothing serious! (But they are all pretty serious when in full swing)
2022-10-17 15:19:02
`Peyo` I had no idea that option existed! o.o That's pretty hidden!!! Yes a dedicated button would be great and would pair up so nicely with that extra layer you added, it would make the workspace feel so free and airy!
2022-10-17 14:19:31
`Peyo` Also something wonderful to have would be the ability to merge layers down on top of each other! So much like the flip layers button where it switches for each other, it would take the layer on top and merge it with the one right under it, leaving one layer with data on it and one layer blank. That, too, would be a big help for making the most out of what's available since a lot of times changes that get made on an upper layer are fine to be baked down onto a layer they are overtop of, which then frees up that upper layer.
2022-10-17 13:50:29
`Peyo` Well honestly selecting for even one layer at a time would be wonderful! Usually the case would be for repositioning an element precisely, so with the ability to do it per layer we could still scoot multiple elements in place to match up! I actually thought selecting would be too tricky on Java but that would be a real dream come true and would eliminate one of the biggest bugbears that currently exists, which is getting things laid in wrong then needing to change them! A single-layer rectangle selection tool in combo with the 4 layers would be dreamy!
And thank you again for the extra layer it seems to work great!
2022-10-16 19:38:24
`Peyo` THANK YOU! O-O That is amazing!
2022-10-16 00:53:02
@⚰ Hi it's great to see you again! Peyo's done a wonderful job with this site and it's pretty much locked down against trolling. There was one attempt but it was crushed quickly by Peyo and measures were taken. I hope we can do some strips together and I hope you've been well!
2022-10-15 14:10:53
`Peyo` An extra layer would be wonderful! And yes I was pondering over the mask and wasn't sure what would work best, but the idea of a layer being able to be switched to mask mode made sense due to the masking being color agnostic and only relying on transparency. That would definitely be something that would have a lot of room for ways of implementing it.
And yes the selection is more of a pie in the sky thing as I know that's a difficult area even in non-java applications!
I'll be looking forward to breaking in an extra layer and thank you for considering it!
