Sorting Panels Into Different Categories Locally

`Peyo` A lot of times I'd like to make quick responses in strips that have a... shall we say... more breezy and concept-centric art approach... But I tend to hold off from it due to not wanting to turn my gallery into a mass of sketch panels. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, and a lot of users probably have ideas that they could execute quickly to contribute to things, but they hold off in the name of a baseline of quality.
So!
Would it be possible to add a method to sort the panels in your gallery into different categories (2 would be fine for starters, and maybe all that's ever needed) like the scraps function on other art sites? It would need to be something decided by the gallery owner for any given panel at any given time, so would need to be independent of the drawing tool, since you can be locked out of that if a strip does not allow editing. One idea I had would be a tab that opens up another version of your gallery but allows you to click panels you want to send to the other gallery (To scraps from normal, or to normal from scraps) and save to reload and do the send. A "sort mode."
Then, when viewing a user's gallery, there could be a "Scraps" or "Sketch" tab that holds all the sketch work.
Needless to say what went where would be entirely up to the judgement of the gallery owner with no standard applied. It would be a tool for curating how your work is seen by others.
I don't fully understand what you mean.. like do you feel bad about some of your artwork? 🤔
anyway .. maybe we could have something like a featured panel section instead?
like something where you could like your own panels and those would appear on your profile without going to your gallery?
so now we have Strips Completed Underway
and it would be Strips Featured Completed Underway
but the first few in features also displayed?
because you cannot star your own panels I guess we could replace that corner with a button for this.. 🤔
but I'm just brainstorming now
@Peyo, I had to re-read a few times, but I think you actually just proposed the polar opposite of what I was saying. That feature you mentioned sounds good too, and you should definitely consider having that (That's a bit like the Drawception Cover feature, and people really liked that) but what I was proposing was something where by UN-liking a panel you have created you could send it to a scraps gallery that someone viewing your work would have to specifically opt to go to in order to see these un-liked panels, the idea being these aren't the sort of panels you'd want to show to someone wanting to see what you're capable of.
What you're saying sounds more like a way to highlight panels you're particularly proud of, which people would definitely love to have as well. I'd consider being able to put panels in a scraps section much more valuable but both would be valued as site features. Being able to organize your work by how you feel about it is an appealing thing,
Oh a scraps section would be great!
It's not about feeling bad about art but more about separating works held up in different standards. Polished panels vs more simplistic pragmatic ones. It's just good to be able to separate them in your gallery to show that it's a deliberate choice! And also provide different viewing experiences.
The featured panels idea isn't bad, but it doesn't really serve the same purpose.
`Peyo` Also the bit about feeling bad about work, I'd say this: The ability to feature panels would never cause me to create a panel I otherwise wouldn't make. But the ability to scrap panels and put them in a place where I could say "Don't take these panels seriously, they were for a specific context" certainly would cause me to make panels I wouldn't otherwise make.
Yeah, it'd be a good way for people to feel less stress about contributing
You might not worry about these things, but others do!
Honestly if I had to think "I've got to make a panel that I then have to feature on my profile" actually makes drawing more daunting! The opposite effect of what we're looking for!
for me it's just strange that anyone takes this seriously 🤔
(I mean this is not exactly an art portfolio site.. like for me the whole point would be that they are all scraps and just have fun and .. but I don't want to force this view on anyone either)
maybe it could be a number based system
like you could give each of your panels a score
-1 would be scraps
0 normal
1 turned out well (featured?)
of course this is just for the database
you would see icons for it
e.g: 😀 😐 💩
and then we can either sort them based on this score
or just put them in different sections 🤔
but I'm just brainstorming again
`Peyo` I mean I don't take it so seriously I'd make a site based on it or anything, but, you know...
Actually that scoring system would be great, if you could assign a number value (or represent it with an emoji like in your example) to allow different panels to be sorted. An additional bonus is it would allow people to get NSFW panels out of their main gallery and into a sub gallery. That would have two nice effects, the first being if someone was sheepish about doing NSFW it would give them less of a worry that their gallery would be a minefield of giant "I DID PORN no actually there's nothing sexual in the comic but THIS MAKES IT LOOK LIKE I DID PORN" signs, and if someone just didn't want have a bunch of generic signs cluttering their gallery, being able to shuffle them off to their own folder is a good fix.
hmm.. well we could put the nsfw panels into a different tab anyway (so you don't have to do it one by one) 🤔
A dedicated NSFW panels tab would actually be really useful, cause then you could make it so it actually displays the panels, rather than just showing the warning icon!
`Aluminimalism` Good point because otherwise it's pointless to even show the panels as objects, you may as well just have a count. That would be really good and could likewise have the same logic as the NSFW strips that if someone goes to the NSFW tab they know what they're signing up for.
